A Very Curious Bear, by Tony Mitton; illus. by Paul Howard, ages 3 & up
This is a wonderful book for the world’s little questioners and their well-meaning but sometimes exasperated parents. A little bear asks questions from the moment the bear family gets out of bed in the morning until he/she snuggles in his bed at the end of the day. Big bear (who is not identified as mother or father) answers each question with love, patience and imagination:
“Why does the path make such wriggles and bends?
To take us on journeys and lead us to friends.”
The illustrations are soft and sweet, following little bear as he (or she) passes the day in the woods with friends rabbit and mouse, asking questions and having them answered very poetically. A great bedtime read for parent and child alike.
